Lakers News: Potential Rotation Piece To Miss At Least First 10 Days Of New Season With Injury
Los Angeles Lakers rookie shooting guard Jalen Hood-Schifino is set to miss at least the first 10 days of his first pro season.
Per Jovan Buha of The Athletic, the 6'6" swingman out of Indiana is dealing with a right knee contusion, and the ailment is so bad LA's medical team is set to re-appraise the ailing ligament on November 3rd. At minimum, he'll miss the club's first five games of the year.
This could hurt Hood-Schifino's chances of cracking head coach Darvin Ham's rotation, at least to start the season. Across his four healthy preseason contests for LA, the Second All-Big Ten Second Teamer averaged a scant 2.8 points on 16% shooting from the floor, but compensated with some adept passing (4.0 assists) and rebounding for his size (3.5 boards) in 18.7 minutes.
His lone NCAA season was fairly impressive, and speaks to the kind of scorer he may be able to develop into, down the road at least. In 32 contests with the Hoosiers, he posted averages of 13.5 points on a .417/.333/.776 slash line, 4.1 rebounds, 3.7 dimes, and 0.8 steals a night.
